Our Courses

Overview

Theory & Practice’s courses are centered on community and inclusivity. The zoom class is sensory-friendly and encourages participants to contribute in whatever way feels best. We incorporate the chat feature, verbal participation, nonverbal cues, and other modalities that encourage inclusion.

Course Materials

You will need a hard-copy (or, if you take notes on an e-reader, that will work, too) of the book, and a notebook or journal. Until we have our own storefront, we encourage folks to purchase their books from Denver’s The Shop at Matter. Please support this local,  BIPOC and woman-owned business by purchasing your book on their website or selecting their website on bookshop.org. They offer in-store pick-up and nationwide shipping! Also, they’re cool as heck.

Cost

We recognize that cost is frequently a barrier to access. We are dedicated to eliminating that barrier. We now proudly use Alexis J. Cunningfolk’s Green Bottle Method and pay-what-you-can pricing. All of Theory & Practice’s courses begin at $1 per session.

We ask that you utilize this framework for choosing what to pay.

Please honor what level best reflects your experience. When you go to checkout, add your additional amount in the highlighted box in this image.

Our Syllabus —

bell hooks

Our flagship course highlights some of bell hook’s most influential work. All About Love radically explores the root of relationships, friendships, community, and social justice. An 8-session course, online or in person. Limit 12 people per course. Two hours per session.

What It Takes to Heal

What It Takes to Heal is Prentis Hemphill’s call to action that centers joy, community, healing, and transformation. This ten-session course spends one session on each chapter, and features journaling, discussions, and accountability work done in community.

Interested in having Whitney facilitate a book club?

Whitney is available and would love to incorporate Theory & Practices liberatory, anti-racist practices with businesses, schools, or even privately-hosted book clubs. Have an idea? Let them know!
